Options
Fred + III grows a number of different blueberry varieties, including Bluecrop, Dukes, and Walcotts. Walcotts are available early-season, Dukes and Bluecrop mid-season. We are strictly a pick-your-own operation at this time. Pick-your-own berries cost $2.50 per pound.
Fun Fact
Not only are blueberries delicious, they also have a number of health benefits! They are high in anti-oxidants and are an excellent source of iron and vitamin C. In fact, in comparison with 40 fresh fruits and vegetables, the U.S. Department of Agriculture ranks blueberries #1 in anti-oxidant benefits. It has 2 times the anti-oxidant capacity of spinach and 3 times that of oranges.
Recipe
Blueberry Green Salad
2 qt salad greens
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp grated lemon peel
2 oz chunks blue cheese
2 Tbsp lemon juice
Toss together greens and blueberries. Combine remaining ingredients except blue cheese and mix well. Pour desired amount of dressing over greens and toss. Sprinkle blue cheese over top. Makes 4 servings.
